Cutting-edge Blade Servers Expand Hosting Opportunities at Cirrus Tech
Canadian Web Host, Cirrus Tech, aims to take advantage of the benefits offered by new Dell Blade Servers.
Toronto, ON – May 2, 2008 Cirrus Tech, a leading Canadian web hosting company, has recently installed new Dell PowerEdge Blade Servers in their Toronto data center. Dell touts their PowerEdge Blade Servers as “The World’s First Fully Modular, Most Power Efficient Blade Solution.” Cirrus aims to take full advantage of the technology these servers have to offer.
The main differences between a blade server and a standard rack-mounted server are the physical dimensions and shared components. Blade Servers are much sleeker than rack-mounted servers and are designed for high density. However, unlike a rack-mounted server that can essentially exist on its own, a blade server requires an enclosure that houses other blade servers. While the standard non-blade servers duplicate components among each server, blade servers share the non-core computing services between them. A key benefit of this enclosure set-up is energy efficiency.
Ali Mirdamadi, Product Director at Cirrus Tech, says “Our decision to purchase the PowerEdge Blade Servers made sense from both a business standpoint and an environmentally conscious perspective.” The Dell PowerEdge Servers consume 19% less power and perform 25% better per watt than competing products. Cirrus hopes to pass on these energy savings to its clients.
In addition to energy efficiency, the PowerEdge Blade Servers allow for an unsurpassed level of scalability, load balancing, and redundancy. With these innovative servers, Cirrus Tech aims to introduce new services that utilize this technology to its fullest.
At the time of this writing, the PowerEdge Blade Servers were being tested at Cirrus Tech’s Toronto Data Center. Look for these servers to be offered initially in Cirrus Tech’s Dedicated Hosting Plans.
