Cirrus Tech recognizes the importance of being an environmentally conscious company. We realize that the nature of web hosting requires for a high level of power consumption, and this ultimately adds to the environmental problems that exist today.

We’ve made the decision to take steps towards making our organization a more green hosting company.

Some of the initiatives that we have taken to become a more green hosting company are purchasing more energy efficient servers, focusing on our VPS hosting plans, and minimizing our office paper consumption.

Energy Efficient Servers

In an effort to reduce energy consumption, we have installed new Dell Blade Servers in our Data Centers. While we still use standard rack-mounted servers as well, we are moving towards a more modular-based data center.

The Dell PowerEdge Servers consume 19% less power and perform 25% better per watt than competing products. Unlike a rack-mounted server that essentially exists on its own, a blade server requires an enclosure that houses other blade servers. While the standard non-blade servers duplicate components among each server, blade servers share the non-core computing services between them. A key benefit of this enclosure set-up is energy efficiency.

A Focus on VPS Hosting

A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is an isolated environment on a physical server that hosts other VPS containers. The available server resources are assigned to each VPS. This allows each VPS to have its own set of dedicated resources and the outcome is a highly efficient utilization of server resources.

One of our goals when designing our VPS plans was to give clients more choice in choosing a VPS that best fits their requirements. In addition, we wanted to provide our clients a more efficient alternative to a dedicated server since our dedicated servers utilize the most energy out of all our hosting products. The result was a range of VPS plans starting from a basic VPS with minimal resources to larger plans that offer resource that are on par with some dedicated servers.

With a focus on our VPS hosting, we aim to minimize the amount of excess resources making for a more green hosting environment. To learn more about our VPS Hosting, click HERE.

Reducing Paper Consumption

Being a completely online business has allowed us to minimize the amount of paper consumption within our business office. All invoices and other billing documents are sent via email and are accessible through the client’s control panel for download as a PDF.

By taking full advantage of online applications and software as a service (SaaS), we are able to operate as a near paperless organization. It is company policy to avoid printing emails and other documents, and utilize digital alternatives, such as PDFs, whenever possible. Even faxes that are sent to Cirrus Tech are scanned and sent to us in an email instead of being printed.

With a keen eye to the environment, we are continuously looking for ways to reduce our ecological footprint while continuing to provide our clients with the best service levels possible.
